Mary A. Brecht, 102 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with Fr. Tim Sheedy presiding, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 South Cedar Street. Mary was born February 2, 1913 the daughter of Thomas F. and Johanna (Dwyer) Kelly. She married Floyd "Bill" Brecht on August 4, 1934 in Ottumwa. Mary worked for many years at Penick and Ford, Kilborn Photo as well as working with Floyd in his various businesses, including the Safari Lounge. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, cooking and baking. Floyd and Mary wintered in Mesa, Arizona for many years and enjoyed the time spent with friends there as well. Mary loved being with her family, especially being with the grand and great-grandkids. Mary is survived by her children Rosemary (Gene) Erenberger, Phyllis (Bernie) White both of Solon and Cheryl (Don) Williams of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Edwin (Eileen) Brecht of Marengo; sisters-in-law, Marion (Bernard) Brecht of Marengo, Evelyn (Keith) Kimm of Norway, and Dorothy (Leonard) Brecht of Blairstown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd "Bill" who died August 14, 2007, grandson Steven White, and a great-grandson Willie Herdliska, brother, Emmett Kelly, and sisters-in-law Helen Kelly, and Kathryn (Ora) Kimm. Memorials may be directed to HIS Hands Medical Clinic, St. Peter and Pauls Historical Foundation in her name, or to the donors choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy and Hospice House for their loving care for Mary.
