Martha was born June 4, 1957, in Stanton, Tennessee, the daughter of Jessie James and Martha Mae (Yanders) Boddie. Martha was a beautiful sweet and giving woman with a big heart. She was generous to a fault and that's when the stubbornness kicked in. And she could silence you with just a look then make you laugh just as quickly. She always found the silver lining and gave others faith through her own. She loved cooking, crocheting, spending time with her family and let's not forget BINGO! She received her Culinary Arts Degree from Kirkwood and worked at Perkins on 33rd in Cedar Rapids for 34 years before she retired. To know her was to love her and we all did, do and always will. Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Auntie and Friend. She lives on in our hearts but will forever be missed.
Martha is survived by her husband, Lafayette Smith; her sister Ruby Willard, her children Joyce Daniels, Mae Bruce and Octavia Smith; step-children George Pirtle, Michael Pirtle, Bruce Pirtle, Diane Husband, Kiaundra Smith; eighteen grandchildren; & many great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie James Boddie & Martha Mae Yander, her first husband George Wilson Pirtle, her siblings James Robert Boddie, Charles Boddie, Jessie Mae Browning,
Memorials may be directed to the family.
