Martha Agnes Mekota, 84 of North Liberty, died Saturday, August 19, 2006 in the Solon Nursing Care Center after a long illness.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2006 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with Rev. Alecia Williams presiding.  Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Iowa City.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel, Solon and for an hour prior to services Friday at the chapel.

Martha was born April 17, 1922 in Shueyville the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Fisher) Detert.  She married Edwin Mekota September 16, 1941 in Ely.  Edwin and Martha lived on a farm in Solon until 1951 and then made their home in North Liberty where they lived for 40 years.  Martha was devoted to her family and the farm, taking loving care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Martha was an excellent gardner as shown by her beautiful flower beds.  Her family will always remember her as a wonderful cook and baker.  She will be missed.

Martha is survived by her son Clair Mekota (Judy Johnson-Mekota); grandchildren Jeff (Beth) Mekota and Lindsay Mekota; two great-grandchildren Lance and Ryan Mekota all of North Liberty; sister Wilma (Don) Logan of Whittier, CA; brothers Wilbur Detert of Cedar Rapids, Vernon Detert of North Liberty, and Don (Phyllis) Detert of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law Joann Detert of Anamosa.  Martha was preceded into death by her parents Charles and Agnes; her husband Edwin on September 15, 1991; and her brother Norbert Detert.
