Mark Matias, 58, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from a lengthy struggle with mental illness and alcoholism.  Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a time of reflection beginning at 7 p.m.  Private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Mark was born September 22, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Mary Kathleen "Connie" (Convey) Matias. He graduated from Regis High School, class of 1982.  Following he graduated from IV Tech in Terra Haute, Indiana with degree in Automotive Mechanics.  Mark spent nine years as a police officer with the City of Cedar Rapids.  In 1995, he began a career in the construction industry. Mark was united in marriage to Lisa Weber on May 23, 1987, at St. Jude's Catholic Church.  He enjoyed tending to his yard, building and construction projects, riding his Harley, and most of all spending time with family.

Mark is survived by his wife Lisa; his daughters Amanda (Nathan) Ludwig and Brittany (Jacob) White; five grandchildren Coy, Ace, Lucille, Ila, and Urban; his siblings Ronald (Barb) Matias and John (Barb) Matias; as well nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Kay (Lynn) Willett.
