Marilyn "Kay" McFarland, 79 of Solon, passed away with family by her side on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  Celebration of Life Services will be  10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Solon United Methodist Church, with Reverend Scott Keele Kober officiating, with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Solon United Methodist Church.  Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon are caring for Kay's service.

Marilyn was born June 16, 1938 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Arkle) Hill.  She graduated from Burlington High School, class of 1956.  She earned a BS Nursing degree from the University of Iowa in 1960, as well as a Masters of Biblical Studies in 1990, from Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque.  Kay was united in marriage to John McFarland on April 6, 1963 in Burlington.

Kay is survived by her husband, John; her daughters Karen (Ken) Miller, Natalie (Tim) Kral and Connie McFarland; grandchildren Aj, Riese, Cade, Allison, Jeni and Joe; and her brother John R. Hill of Columbia, South Carolina, as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Solon United Methodist Church Choir in her name.
