Marilyn Helen Hekel, 65, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Shellsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Brosh Chapel.   Private family inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.

Marilyn was born July 10, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Shirley (Weist)  Glasbrenner.  She graduated from Shellsburg High School.  Marilyn worked at Amana Refrigeration for nearly 47 years.  She enjoyed traveling, dancing, going to casinos, especially Las Vegas, and spending time with her family.

Marilyn is survived by her children Dan (Rhonda) Hekel, Derek (Sarah) Hekel and Dustin Hekel; grandchildren Tyler, Nathan, Brenden, Caitlin and Morgan; her longtime companion of over 37 years Jerry Driscoll; and siblings Connie Engledow, Rita Swanton, Sue Gipson, Carol Cox, Jerry Glasbrenner and David Glasbrenner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Mike Ritter.
