Margaret Smyth Vornholt, 95 of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. William Harnish presiding. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Tuesday at the chapel.
Margaret was born August 29, 1911 near Ely the daughter of James and Lida Kelsey Smyth. She married Edward J. Vornholt on February 17, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. Margaret lived in Swisher on a farm with her husband, and in the 1960's they moved to Cedar Rapids. She was a loving, caring person to everyone that she knew. Margaret loved to cook and bake especially kolaches, as well quilting, and enjoyed listening and playing music. She also attended and was a member of the Ely Friendship Club.
Margaret is survived by her nieces Aileen See, Kathryn Louise Smyth; nephews Marvin (Sharon) Smyth, James L.(Sally) Smyth, and Ted (MaryLe) Smyth; 7 great nieces and nephews, as well as her close family friends, the Pisney, Knott, Schumacher and Votroubek families, and her caregiver Lenora Jiroutek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed on December 18, 1993; and brothers Harvey, Delbert, and Wilbur Smyth, and a special friend Ben Votroubek.
