Margaret Louise Clemens, 97 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 06, 2014 at The Meth-Wick Community. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Church of the King, located at 3750 F Avenue NW, with Reverend Don Glazier presiding. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Margaret was born July 25, 1916 in Iowa City, the daughter of Cyrus and Anna (Turkal) Fowler. She married John Clemens on June 26, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. Margaret worked beside her husband with the business they started, Clemens Canvas, for many years until they sold the business and moved to Western, where they enjoyed growing roses and gardening. She learned to ride a horse at age 50 and together they showed horses. When her husband passed she moved to Cedar Rapids and joined Church of the King. She went to Bible studies, was a greeter and got communion ready. She made many church friends over the years. Margaret moved to Meth-Wick Manor seven years ago into a one bedroom apartment. In November of this year she became ill and moved to the Woodlands nursing home. Margaret enjoyed gardening and crafting. She had a knitting machine and made beautiful sweaters and blankets for family and friends. She also got a group of ladies together at the Manor and taught the ladies how to make hats and gloves for charities. She played cards 3 nights a week. She also worked at the gift shop at the Manor. She really enjoyed being with family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. We have lost a great loving Mom, grandmother, great-grandmother. We love you Margaret. Margaret is survived by her daughter Barb (Jerome) Sonka of Newhall; son-in-law Bob (Marilyn) Barnes of Grinnell; five grandchildren John (Sheila) Sonka, Kim McAtee, Jamie (Miranda) Sonka, Col. Scott (Rose) Barnes and Lt. Col. Stephen Barnes; thirteen great-grandchildren Tyler and Blake Sonka, Paige, Amanda and Andrew McAtee, Baily, Lexie and Cole Sonka, Brooke and Nicole Barnes, and Laura, Noah and Mira Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband John Earl Clemens, her daughter Janice Sue Barnes, a granddaughter Laura Lee Barnes, two brothers Don and Raymond Fowler and a sister Dorothy Willey. Memorials may be directed to the family.
