Marcella A. Sovers, 89 of Solon, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon with a vigil service starting at 7 p.m. Marcella was born November 16, 1921 in Oxford, the daughter of Frank J. and Margaret (Kloos) Tomas. She married Ralph Sovers on June 24, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. She and her husband farmed for many years south of Solon. She was a member of the Solon American Legion Auxiliary and worked at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Iowa City. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, polka music and caring for her pets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Marcella is survived by her grandsons, John (Susan) Sovers of Muscatine, Mark Sovers of Solon and Daniel (Michele) Sovers of Iowa City; granddaughter, Tricia (Sean) Lokmer of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew Sovers and Patricia Lokmer, a sister Gladys (Jim) Christensen, sister-in-law; Ruth Tomas, brother-in-law; Ray Williams and several nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son/daughter-in-law, Wes & Pat Sovers, siblings; Adeline Williams, Frank Tomas and Chuck Tomas. Memorials may be directed to the family.
