Marcella "Marcie" Eleanor Svestka Pernicka, 88 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 06, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Jude's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a 5 p.m. parish vigil. Marcella was born September 17, 1925 in Spillville, the daughter of Fred and Frances (Strnad) Taylor. She was united in marriage to Leonard Svestka on October 11, 1943 in Spillville. Leonard died August 11, 1984. She married Harold Pernicka. Marcie enjoyed bingo, gambling, going to "The Club", and spending time with her friends and family. Marcie is survived by her three sons Dennis (Terri) of Marion, Larry (Jane) of Van Horne, Gary (Nancy) of Galveston, Texas; a daughter Sandy (Tom) Oakley of Shellsburg; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; her siblings Norma (Don) Lensing, Alvin (Bea) Taylor both of Protivin, and Kay (Joe) Schmitt of Sarasota, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Leonard Svestka and Harold Pernicka. Memorials may be directed to the family.
