Mabel Novotny, 95 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Silver Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation from a brief illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial will follow in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Mabel was born May 22, 1912 near Oxford, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Shebetka) Swenka. She married Adolph E. Novotny on June 22, 1932 near Ely. Mabel and Adolph celebrated 62 years of marriage together living in the Shueyville area all of their married life. Mabel was a member of the 1

Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the Johanna Society near Ely. Mabel enjoyed being a farm wife, gardening, sewing, and raising chickens. She was an excellent cook and baked many kolaches.
Mabel is survived by her sons Howard (Elaine) Novotny of Fairfax and Warren (Kathy) Novotny of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters: Kim Novotny of Cedar Rapids and Heidi (Bart) Stiffler of Anamosa and greatgrandson Brady; sisters Emily (Norbert) Wagner of Iowa City, Leona Evans of Coralville, and Marie Just of Cedar Rapids; brother Edward Swenka of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law Helen Swenka of North Liberty and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Adolph on March 26, 1994; her sister Elsie Tomash; and her brothers William Swenka, Clarence Swenka, and Kenneth Swenka.
