Lumir Melsha, 84, of Swisher, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, in his home.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022, St. Ludmila Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher Iowa where full military rites will be conducted.

Lumir was born January 3, 1938, in Cedar Rapids the son of Joseph "Jike" and Lilyan (Urban) Melsha.  He graduated from Wilson High School in 1956.  He served in the Navy from 1955-1963, being stationed in Guam for two of those years.   Lumir was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Donovan on October 3, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He worked at Collins Radio, drove a beer truck for many years and tended bar at Melsha Tap.

Lumir is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children Doug (Heidi) Melsha, Mike (Shar) Melsha and Dean (Kris) Melsha; grandchildren AJ and Travis Melsha, Ben (Loryn) and Alex Richard and Kyle Saulsbury;  sister Lilyan "Ginger" Serbousek; daughter-in-law Lorraine Melsha; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Harold Sirowy, son Joe, brother Bruce Melsha, in-laws Vincent and Alice Donovan, brothers-in-law Denis and Dean Donovan and Richard Serbousek, and sister-in-law Mary Anne Donovan.

Memorials may be directed to The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight or to the family.
