Luanne Doris Phillips, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at her son's home in Livonia, Michigan. Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 5338 Johnson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52404 on Friday, January 3rd 10 a.m. with the service at 11a.m. and a noon lunch. Graveside will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll, Illinois on Saturday, January 4th, 11 a.m. graveside.
Luanne was born November 7, 1930, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Siegfried (Fred) and Margery (Holm) Peters. She was a graduate of Mt. Carroll High School, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and completed primary grades in a one room country schoolhouse at Vinegar Hill School near Argo Fay, Illinois. Many fond memories of ringing the school bell and keeping the fire burning in the wood furnace. She grew up on a farm near her school and learned how to work the farm with her father tending to the livestock, milking cows, feeding chickens, gardening, canning, and guiding horses to bail hay.
On August 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard Lee Phillips in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. They began married life in Mt. Carroll, Cedar Rapids, and moved to various places in Missouri, Illinois, the longest residency had been in Cedar Rapids, were they both retired. They were blessed by two children, Scott (Judie) Phillips, and Nicholas (Carol) Philips.
Luanne was employed in the Cedar Rapids Community School District as an administrative assistant to principles at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.
Luanne was avid gardener, and an expert seamstress. She enjoyed painting with acrylics, reading, solving crossword puzzles, watching the Chicago Cubs, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids were she participated in bible studies, and women's small groups. Her quite reserve, humility, love for her children and devotion to the Lord were evident. She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her. Her family and friends are comforted knowing she is with Jesus, and they will see her again one day.
Luanne is survived by her son Nicholas (Carol) Phillips of Livonia, Michigan, devoted daughter in law Judie Phillips of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, Eric, Thad, Ryan, Corey, Abigail, and Paige, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son Scott both of Cedar Rapids, and her sister Donna Van Buer of Clinton, Iowa.
Memorials in Luanne's memory may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church, 5338 Johnson Ave nue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404 where she loved to worship, fellowship and continually grow in her faith with Christ.
