July 14, 1956 – January 13, 2023
LuAnn Dvorak, 66, of Iowa City , passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at The Bird House – Hospice Home of Johnson County. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.
Burial will take place in Czech National Cemetery.
LuAnn was born in July of 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Edwin and Marcella. She graduated from Prairie High School in 197 4 and went on to nursing school before pursuing her PhD . She taugh t Rhetoric at the University of Iowa as well as UCLA and the University of California Merced. She was also active with the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.
LuAnn enjoyed spending time with her cats (Kit and Mae) and watching birds, rabbits, and other wildlife. She also enjoyed classic movies and TV shows, watching Iowa football games with her son and grandson, and visiting with her daughter and "grand-puppies". She will be remembered as a quirky, witty intellectual with a strong interest in politics and a passion for family history.
LuAnn is survived by her daughter Bethany Ryan and son Sean Ryan; grandson Dylan; sister Joyce Kinney ; brother Dav id Dvorak; several nieces and nephews ; and ex-husband Dan Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin Dvorak and Marcella Dvorak (Benyshek)) Klein; and a brother Richard Dvorak.
Memorial s may be directed to the family; t he Bird House ; or Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center - UIHC with special thanks to Dr. Muhammad Furqan.
