Louis John Roman, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on April 14, 2024, at The Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
Louis was born on October 11, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Mary (Prochazka) Roman. He graduated from St. Wenceslaus Catholic High School. He began working at Collins Radio, until joining the United States Navy for four years in the Submarine Service; following, he returned to Collins. Louis was united in marriage to Mary Lou Hahn on September 2, 1961, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He retired from Collins in 1991, and then began a new career as the leader of the Bingo Program at St. Ludmila. During this time, he was instrumental in updating and growing the Program for over nine years. He then worked for the City of Cedar Rapids part-time as a Parking Lot Attendant for nine years. He enjoyed tending to home projects, woodworking, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louis was a generous, caring, friendly man with a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed.
Louis is survived by his wife Mary; his children Michael (Tom Atkins) Roman, Kathy (Jeff) Etringer and Michele (Ron) Haakma; four grandchildren Melissa Hewitt (Ernesto Martinez Rivera), Jason Hewitt, Sarah (Bryant) Hickie and John Etringer; three great-grandchildren Hailey, James and Logan; his siblings George (Cecilia) Roman and Helen (Roger) Blietz; his brother-in-law Don Hahn; as well as his nieces and nephews.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Mary (Don) Berger, Frank (Jean) Roman, Tony Roman, Ann (Butch) Milota, Joe (Barb) Roman, Agnes (Tommy) Thomas.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
