Louis "Louie" Barta, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died from Acute Leukemia Wednesday morning, September 14, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2005 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Monsignor Karl Glovik will be presiding.  Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4  to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids where there will be a 7 p.m. parish rosary.

Louie was born on February 24, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Louis W. and Libbie (Bures) Barta.  On August 8, 1945 he married Margaret Hartl at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.  The couple farmed together on the family century farm until their retirement.  Louie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, CSA Lodge 137, and the Coachmen Camper Club.  He enjoyed traveling, and spending time with the Fairfax Senior Citizens.  Louie also enjoyed music and dancing, especially polkas, and playing cards with friends.  He was the best husband, father and friend one could have.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Margaret Barta; daughter Diane (Gary) Siegle of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Denise (Jim) Rhodes of Albia, Debra (Matt) Brei of Shakopee, Minnesota, Joe Siegle and Chris Graham both of Mt. Vernon; and step-granddaughter Sumer Siegle of Reasoner..

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son David Louis Barta, daughter Gloria Jean Barta-Graham, and sisters Clara Cerveny and Agnes Kilberger.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
