Lois was born July 3, 1930, in Van Horne, the daughter of Simon and Vera (Schmuecker) Parr. She graduated from Blairstown High School. Lois was united in marriage to Edmund "Eddie" Ternes on October 25, 1949, at St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown.

Lois and Eddie spent the majority of their lives in Newhall as part of St. Paul Catholic Church Parish. Lois had a long career in retail, and particularly loved her roles as infant department manager for Armstrong's and as partner of her and Eddie's wood and gift shop.

Lois loved baking for family and spending time in her abundant flower garden. She was particularly fond of her lily garden and the wide variety of perennials that bloomed spring through autumn. She spent years collecting and sharing snippets of perennials with friends, family and neighbors - always sharing her passion. She loved oil painting, working alongside Eddie in their wood shop, dancing with Eddie and her brothers, and searching for adventure.

Lois is survived by her children, Connie Novak of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Connie) Ternes of Atkins, Ben (Cindy) Ternes of Swisher, Tom (Claudia) Ternes of Mt Vernon and Diana (Dave) Geudtner of Ingleside, Illinois; her grandchildren, Christoph (Kim) Novak of Chicago, Alison (Aaron Yowell) Novak of Brooklyn, New York, Amanda (Mark) Miller of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Jaime (Cory) Townsend of Mt Vernon, Jen (Wes Brant) Ternes of Atkins, Tanya (Brady) Van Voorst of Cedar Rapids, Matt Ternes of Greenville, South Carolina, Jodie (Brandon) Yuska of Cedar Rapids, Thaddeus (Jenae) Ternes of Austin, Texas, Anna (Joshua) Rundle of Marion, Andrew (Shantel) Ternes of Asbury, Elizabeth Geudtner of New York, NY and Nicholas (Kara Sprinkle) Geudtner of Ingleside, Illinois; her great-grandchildren, Keira and Kohner Novak; Mavis and Melba Yowell; Oliver Miller; Cole and Camden Townsend; Aiden Albertsen and Sydney Brant; Ava and Adalyn VanVoorst; Jaxton, Maddex, Xavier and Lincoln Ternes; Katelyn, Hayden and Nolan Yuska; Micaiah, Gideon, Boaz and Meadow Ternes; Renae, Jack, Adelaide and Henry Rundle; Jameson, Xavier, Elise, Kinsley, and Liberty Ternes; her sister-in-laws, Anastasia "Tess" Krumm, Janice Parr, Ruth Parr, and Janet Parr.
