Lloyd K. Cooling, 81, of Ely, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home. Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Solon.  Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon.

Lloyd was born October 4, 1937 in rural Marshall County, the son of Eldon and Julia (Borton) Cooling.  He graduated from Newburg High School.  Lloyd was united in marriage to Lois Malatek on September 19, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church. He worked for FJ Krob, FMC, and Tjelmeland Construction.  After retirement he enjoyed making trophies alongside his son, Kevin and wife Sue.  He loved spending time fishing, woodworking, gardening, and keeping his yard looking the best.  He and his wife enjoyed their trips to Wisconsin apple orchards, as well as an occasional casino visit, playing his favorite "Lucky Leprechaun" machine.  Most of all, Lloyd loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Lois; his son Kevin Cooling of Cedar Rapids; his daughters Jackie (Mark) Brown of Cedar Rapids and Kim Cooling of Ely; five grandchildren Nicholas (Cassie) Cooling, Christopher (Becca) Cooling, Lauren Cooling, Colin and Morgan Brown; four great-grandsons Carter, Corbin, Hayes, and Miller Cooling; his sister Margaret (Dick) Hajek; his brothers Garol (Ruth) Cooling, Vernon (Ruth) Cooling, Lyle (Joyce) Cooling and Duane (Debbie) Cooling; sisters-in-law Sheryl (Allen) Tjelmeland, Sue (Jess) Schulte, Patricia Malatek and Lu Ann Cooling; a brother-in-law Pat Malatek; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Robert and Marian Malatek; brothers Charles (Esther) Cooling, Darol (Joyce) Cooling, Dale Cooling, Dallas (Mary) Cooling and Gary Cooling; sister LaVonne (Walt) Walters; brother-in-law Tom Malatek a sister-in-law Gloria Malatek; and his beloved daughter-in-law Sue Cooling.
