Leonard Joseph Reyman, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, August 6th. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW with Reverend Julie Schuett presiding. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Leonard was born on the family farm near Swisher on November 9, 1924, the son of Joseph and Estella (Jiroutek) Reyman. He graduated from Shueyville High School in 1943. Leonard was united in marriage to Arlene Kloubec on November 1, 1945 at First Presbyterian Church near Ely. Together they farmed the family farm until his retirement. He was a purebred Duroc hog breeder along with this son Randy and competed in many livestock shows in the Midwest. He worked for Merchants National Motor Bank for over 11 years. Leonard played the accordion from the age of nine until last month when he played as usual with the Iowa Accordion Band at Westdale Mall. He played with many local bands and in 1947 he formed the Leonard Reyman Band which performed locally for 55 years. In 1985, he took his five piece band and their wives to the Valley in Texas and spent fifteen winters there playing several nights a week. As a result Leonard and Arlene made many friends from all over the country. The band played anniversary dances in Illinois, Wyoming and Winnepeg, Canada. He disbanded the band in 2000 and later formed the Iowa Accordion Club. The group played at festivals, care centers, retirement homes, as well as Westdale Mall. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church near Ely, Elks Lodge, Johnson County Farm Bureau and WFLA. Leonard is survived by his wife Arlene of 65 years; four sons Ronald (Jan) of Swisher, Russell (Pennee) of Donahue, Randy of Decatur, Illinois, and Ryan of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren Jessica, Kate, Chris, Nathan, Aubree, Danae and Cameron; five great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Ruth Kloubec of West Chicago, Illinois. His parents and two sisters Evelyn and Arlene preceded him in death and a brother-in-law Eugene Kloubec. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church near Ely. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Zenk and his staff, St. Luke's Hospice and Brosh Chapel for their help and support.
