Leonard Milo Jansa, 93, of Western, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery.
Leonard was born June 24, 1928, on the century farm near Western, where he farmed all his life. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Schulte on January 15, 1951, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway. He was an active member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a College Township trustee for 20 years, a Farm Bureau member and director, Linn County Extension Officer, and a Czech Heritage Foundation and Prairie Booster Club member. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, playing cards with friends and family, farming with his sons, Darrell and Don but most of all family holiday gatherings surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and will be greatly missed.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie; his children Karen (Jim) Joens of Swisher, Linda Sadler of Cedar Rapids, Darrell Jansa of Shueyville, Julie (Bill) Sanford of Edgewater, Florida and Don (Patti) Jansa of Western; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; his sister Adeline Volesky of Cedar Rapids; his sister-in-law Barbara (Regis) Arp of Fairfax and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Antonie (Matyk) Jansa, his sister Leona (Harold) Poduska, brothers-in-law John Volesky, George Schulte, Bernard (Sylvia) Schulte, Herbert (Violet) Schulte, Glen (Dorothy) Schulte, Ray (Barb) Schulte, sisters-in-law Marcella (Evard) Montague, Sister Lumena Schulte OSF, Lorene (Orville) Blankman, Margaret (Alfred) Hansen.
