Leonard W. Broulik, 87 of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial to follow in Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a 6 p.m. vigil. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Leonard was born May 11, 1921 in rural Johnson County, the son of Emil and Theresa Mallie Broulik. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School at the age of 17. In the early years he farmed his grandmother's farm with his dad in the Ivanhoe area. In the early 40's he moved south of the Mt. Vernon area to continue farming. He married Geraldine Hajek on January 3, 1953 in Ely. He loved to farm, especially with his boys, also being outdoors and taking care of the animals. He enjoyed cards, playing the accordion, listening to Czech music especially polkas. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He will be greatly missed by all.
Leonard is survived by his wife Geraldine; sons Robert (Anna) Broulik of Lisbon and Dan Broulik of Mt. Vernon; daughters Sharon (Keith) Kadlec of Hiawatha, Nancy (Kerry) Vincent of Ely, Teresa (Steve) Weets of Mechanicsville; a daughter in law Julie Broulik of Lisbon; grandchildren Michelle, Sara, Stephanie, Abby, Luke, Jacob, Jenna Alan "A.J.", Amber, Joey, Sally, Stacey, and Johnny; great-grandchildren Spencer, Taylor, Shauna, Caleb, and Logan; step-grandchildren Catie, Matt and Jack; sister in law Connie Broulik of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John on March 8, 2008, and a brother Richard Broulik.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
