Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Leo Lewis Vorba, 79 of Central City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, and Manchester, entered his eternal rest, following a long battle with cancer on November 6th, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, by Pastor Vicki Engelmann, of Central City United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post 421. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Surviving to honor his memory include his wife of 58 years, Christine, son Dennis (Sheila) of Cedar Rapids; daughter Deanna Hendrickson (Brian) of Central City; three grandson's Craig (Alexandra), Shawn (Ashley) & Denny Vorba; two granddaughters, Tina (Jediah) & Tanya Hendrickson; two great-grandchildren Layla & Jackson; brother-in-law Orval Bell (Carol) of Shellsburg; three sisters-in-law Beatrice Short of Robins; Fern Netolicky & Opal Jones of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Steven; two brothers, Milo & Edwin Vorba & a sister Emily Carroll; four brothers-in-law Clyde Carroll, Henry Netolicky, Everett Short & Gilbert Jones and five sisters-in-law Lucille, Adeline, Helen, Verna and Grace Vorba. Leo was born June 5, 1932 the son of Frank & Emma (Drahos) Vorba in Cedar Rapids. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corp and served from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. On September 26th 1953, he was united in marriage to Christine Bell. After his discharge from the Marines, he worked for W.R. Grace Company's Cryovac Division in Cedar Rapids for 18 years and then for the Cedar Rapids Public Works in the Street Department's paint and body shop until retiring in 1994. After retiring he & his wife, Christine moved from Cedar Rapids to their home on Lake Delhi in the Delhi/Manchester area. In 2006, due to health problems they sold their Lake home and moved to Central City to be nearer their Children. Leo was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, and attended Delhi United Methodist church while living on the Lake. After moving to Central City he attended the Central City United Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Legion Post 421 of Central City and past member of the AMVETS & the VFW. Leo loved hunting, fishing and boating. He enjoyed playing cards and watching sports on TV. But most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be directed to the Central City United Church of Christ's building fund. The family wishes to thank St. Lukes Hospice, especially Gary, Pastors Mark Woldruff & Vicki Engelmann, the United Church of Christ, friends and family for their prayers, cards and support during Leo's long illness. And a very special thank you to Rene Sayler for all her help and support during his final hours.
