Lawrence "Bud" James Kubichek, 84 of 1263 White Oak Avenue, Lisbon, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at his home after a lengthy illness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Sutliff Store with inurnment in Roger's Grove Cemetery.
Bud was born March 19, 1927 in Blairstown, Iowa, the son of James and Bessie Kubichek. He attended school in Blairstown. He married Norma Bartosh on June 6, 1945 at St. Peters and Paul Church.
He served in the United States Air Force CIC from 1946 – 1948.
Bud started Kubichek Plumbing and Heating in Solon, in 1952. He retired in 1985. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed daily coffee at the Sutliff Store, hunting, playing cards, bingo, casino visits, and watching the birds (and squirrels) at his many bird feeders. They resided in the home he built in 2002.
Bud is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Keith (Janet) of Winnemucca, Nevada; daughter, Kristy (Jim) Nichols of Iowa City; grandchildren, Stephanie Nichols and Kimberly Nichols of North Liberty, K.C. Kubichek of Winnemucca, Nevada; four step grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Evelyn) Kubichek of Blairstown; eight nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Constance Irene; one brother, Clarence (Katherine) Kubichek; and sister, Faye (Skippy) Kubichek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Solon Fire Department, Lisbon Fire Department, the Solon American Legion, and the Sutliff Bridge fund.
