Larry Jacob Zimmerman, 69, of Ryan, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 2 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan, where there will be a 2 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation will continue at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monday, March 11, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Ryan.
Larry was born August 9, 1949 in Dubuque, the son of Donald and Helen (Huber) Zimmerman. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School and Kirkwood Community College. He was united in marriage with Kathleen Marie Supple on October 26, 1974 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Castle Grove. He was employed at Kraus Manufacturing in Walford, Iowa and Jerseyville, Illinois. In 1978, he began working at Iowa Fluid Power (IFP) in Cedar Rapids, where he sold industrial hydraulics. He enjoyed working at IFP, farming, raising Hereford cattle, collecting muscle cars, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children Ryan (Verona) of San Antonio, Texas, Heather (Bill) Ries of Manchester and Sean Zimmerman of Ryan; seven grandchildren Parker, Lexi, Brody, Casey Ries, Dominic, Ina, and Rocky Tavai; his sisters Sharon Zimmerman of Hopkinton and Teresa (Louis) Fischer of Dubuque; his mother-in-law Virginia Supple of Hopkinton; brothers and sisters-in-law Pat (Marna) Supple, Connie (Ed) Goldsmith, and Mike (Julie) Supple; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy Mary Elizabeth Zimmerman, twin infant brothers, and his father-in-law Justin Supple.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff who cared for Larry at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, 6 Domitella at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital, Mercy Hall Perrine Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center and Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
