Larry John "Smitty" Smith, 61, husband of Georgianna "Daniese", died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. June 7, 2014 at the home of Randy and Teri Kay Foltz, 2418 New Milford School Road, Rockford, Illinois and 2 p.m. July 5, 2014 at the home of Jim and Wendy Frentress, 6152 24th Avenue, Vinton, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.broshchapel.com Larry was born July 1, 1952, in Lemmon, South Dakota, the son of John A. and Frances Jessie (Hardesty) Smith. He graduated from high school in Rockford, Illinois. He met his future wife Georgianna "Daniese" Duitsman on January 29, 1995 in Rockford and they were united in marriage on January 1, 2000, in Winnebago, Illinois. Larry was a certified OD/ID Grinder and Tool and Dye Maker, as well as security guard for Securitas and Per-Mar Security Companies. He enjoyed helping others, working on cars, motors, building houses, cart racing, fishing and spending time with his family. He was never one to shy away from a challenge. "Try it once", was a popular statement Larry John would say. Larry is survived by his wife Georgianna "Daniese", step-child Christopher Duitsman both of Cedar Rapids; his siblings Delmar (Elaine) Smith of Wakefield, Michigan, Mardel Brenbarger of Kingman, Arizona, Charlotte (Larry) DeGarmo of Rockford, Illinois, Lowell Smith (Alan Stevens) of Roscoe, Illinois; as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
