Larry E Engen Sr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully into the arms of God, accompanied by his Guardian Angel on Friday, July 31, 2026. He was surrounded by the absolute devotion and comfort of his wife, canine companion, and hospice family at St. Lukes In Cedar Rapids, IA.

Larry was born on December 6, 1937, the son of Benny and Blanche (Bristol) Engen, in Larimore, ND. He was known for his quiet strengths and deep commitment to family. He graduated from Highschool in 1955 and served as a United Stated Air Force Veteran. He held various positions within the aircraft community of defense contractors, as a mechanic, the Airforce Missile Command, as a Quality Assurance Representative, and retired as a GS-11 Property Management Specialist.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife Kathleen “Katie” Engen who served as his Ultimate Protector and his back-up Guardian Angel throughout his care. Also surviving are his loving sons Dan and Eric; grandchildren; his loyal canine companion, Buddy; brothers Gordon and Richard; and a special nephew David Steele.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Mary Anita (Steele); son Larry Eugene Engen Jr.; brother Alan; and sister Betty.

A private family transition and honoring of his memory will take place on his family’s terms. Local Arrangements are being handled by Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, with final out of town services coordinated through the care of Bakke Funeral Home, in Larimore, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Heritage Care Initiatives Specialty Care, and Unity Point Hospice of St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
