Kent Lamar Scranton, 71, of Solon, went to be with Jesus and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with Pastor Jeremy Higgins presiding. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre.
Kent was born September 29, 1950, in Ottumwa, the son of Wade and Pearl (Arnold) Scranton. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, class of 1968. Kent was united in marriage to Mary Wilson on September 27, 1975, in Hiawatha. He worked at Hy-Vee from 1975, until retiring in 2014 from the Iowa City First Avenue location. Kent enjoyed fishing, going to gun shops, playing solitaire, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He loved to answer many a grandkids questions, and was a known as a "walking encyclopedia". He attended Calvary Community Church in Cedar Rapids and loved being be a part the body of Christ.
Kent is survived by his wife Mary; his children Rachel (Jason) Owen of Solon, Jon (Aimee) Scranton of Anamosa and James (Tara) Scranton of North Liberty; twelve grandchildren Rebekah (Jad) Woodrome, Jilliann, Jair, Maggie, Lincoln, Elizabeth, Ava, Austin, Hudson, Kaitlyn, Kael, and Kyler; one great-grandson Ezra; his brother Kelly (Connie) Scranton of Rochester, Minnesota; his brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as his nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Neal (Betty) Scranton and Nels Scranton.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
