October 19, 1943 – April 1, 2023
Kenneth E. Bontty, 79, of Norway, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023, at St. John XXII Catholic Church, with Fr. Richmond Dzekoe presiding. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax.
Kenneth was born October 19, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edmund and Irene (Plucar) Bontty. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School in 1961. He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam Conflict. Kenneth was united in marriage to Shelia Wodstrchill on February 22, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Walford. He farmed his entire life in the Norway, Cedar Rapids, Anamosa, Fairfax and Amana area. He proudly raised hogs farrow to finish. He enjoyed golfing, going to the casino, traveling, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Green Lake, Wisconsin, was an annual family highlight.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Shelia; his children Brad (Laura) Bontty and Craig (Lynnelle) Bontty; five grandchildren Gavin, Jackson, Austin, Oscar, and Adelyn Bontty; his sister Justina Dunlap; his brother-in-law Dan (Pat) Wodstrchill; sisters-in-law Sheryl (Doug) Houser and Sue (Gary) Grabe; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Tom Dunlap, and his father and mother-in-law Bob and Arlene Wodstrchill.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or to the Alzheimer's Association in his name.
