Kathy Lee Rice, 46 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Celebration of Life gathering will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a time of sharing beginning at 8 p.m.   A private inurnment will be at a later date in Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha.

Kathy was born July 4, 1970 in Marengo, the daughter of Ron and Donna (Buswell) Rice.  She graduated from Metro High School and attended Kirkwood College, where she studied Veterinary Sciences.  She worked at Iowa Workforce/Works until recently.  Kathy loved horses and dogs, especially Rottweilers.

Kathy is survived by her son, Kyle Rice; her two fur babies Messiah and Zeus; her mother Donna (Larry) Throndson of Hiawatha; her siblings Ronda (Alan) Dehning of Cresco and Deanna Rice of Cedar Rapids; step-mother Anna Rice of Montour; step-sisters Terrie (James) Betschel of Romeoville, Illinois and Bethany Leeper of Marshalltown; step-brothers Tom Leeper of Marshalltown, Rich Leeper of Gladbrook, Greg (Mary) Throndson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Chad (Sara) Throndson of Adelanto, California; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father Ronald Rice in 2008, her brother Brian Rice in 1977, her cousins Nicholas Hanson and Paul Barta, her grandparents, and a great-nephew Chandler Gabrielson.
