Kathryn Mary Merta, 75 of 631 29 ^th Street SE, died Monday, August 21, 2006 at Northbrook Manor Care Center from a short illness.  Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Glenn Hunt presiding.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel.

Kathryn was born January 17, 1931, in Allamakee County, the daughter of George and Olive Wagner Henry.  She moved to Cedar Rapids where she met and married Robert Lloyd Merta on May 27, 1950.  Kathryn worked for The Fish Shop, Collins Radio and was a devoted housewife.  Among the things she enjoyed were flower gardening, antiquing, and her family especially, spending time with the grandkids.

Kathryn is survived by her sons Allen (Rita) of Cedar Rapids and Rodney (Cathy) of Marion; two sisters Rose (Robert) Eaton of Cedar Rapids and Norma (David) Snow of Glendale, Arizona; four grandchildren Benjamin (Stacie) Merta of Farmington, Minnesota, Gregory Merta of Cedar Rapids, Kimberley Merta and Matthew Merta both of Marion; one greatgrandchild Avery Merta.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert who died November 24, 1999, a stepfather Fred Meisner and a sister Margie Henry.
