Karen Ann Denny, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday November 16, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center.  Private family services will be held in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Karen was born on September 20, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Frehner) Smothers.  She graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School and earned a degree in Graphic Arts from Kirkwood College. Karen was united in marriage to Jeff Denny on June 1, 2020, in Cedar Rapids.  She enjoyed music, dancing, watching movies, trivia, tending to her dogs, and most of all spending time with her close friends and family, especially the grandkids.

She is survived by her husband Jeff; her daughter Kari (Todd) Viall; her grandchildren Blake and Brooklyn Viall; her siblings Steve (Sandy) Smothers, Sue (John) Winegarden, Kathi (Curt) Johnson, Scott (Beth) Smothers, Lori (Gary) Pershin, and Ed (Angel) Smothers; Jeff's children Alicia Denny, Rochelle (Chris) Northrup and Aaron (Mandy) Denny; her brother-in-law Chris (Connie) Denny; as well as her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joe and Edward Smothers, and a niece Caitlin Smothers.
