Karel Denis Bicha, 89, of Coralville, formerly of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin (WI), passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa. Private services will be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in La Crosse, WI, this fall. Private inurnment will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids are assisting the family at this time.
Karel was born on January 7, 1935, in La Crosse, the son of Stephen and Lauretta (Horan) Bicha. He graduated from Aquinas High School class of 1954 in La Crosse, the University of Wisconsin with a history degree, and earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. Karel was united in marriage to Roberta Gail Gobar on June 14, 1959. He worked as a history professor for 30 years at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and previously at other universities. Karel was a published author of a number of books and articles. He enjoyed watching college football and playing tennis.
Karel is survived by his daughter Anne Marie Bicha of Coralville; son Paul Bicha (Elizabeth) of Flower Mound, TX; grandson Davis Bicha; and sister Marilyn (Mike) Banasik of La Crosse. Also survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Roberta Bicha, in 2021.
