Judith Ann Heilers, 71 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at St. John XXIII Catholic Church with Fr. Dustin Vu presiding. Burial will follow in St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Judith was born March 23, 1943 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harold and Zella (Dettbarn) Richter. She married Edward Heilers on January 29, 1966 in Earlville. Judy worked five years at United Fire, Von Maur for over twelve years, as well as a seamstress from her home. Judy was a member of East Iowa Heirloom Quilters, Marion Mothers of Twins Club, St. Patrick's Catholic Church - Fairfax and Altar & Rosary Society, as well as a current parishioner at St. John XXIII Catholic Church. She served in various leadership roles in the organizations she was a member of. She enjoyed quilting, watching sporting events and spending time with her family. Judy was nominated for the KCRG 9 Who Care Award for charitable work of distributing quilts to flood victims. Judy and Ed were Parents of the Year at Loras College in 1987. Judy is survived by her husband, Edward; her children, Kevin Heilers of Cedar Rapids, Cherie (Robert) Dandurand of Salix, Greg Heilers of Kansas City, Missouri, Gary (Tracy) Heilers of St. Charles, Illinois, and Traci (Daniel) Byrnes of Waukon; six grandchildren Richard and Eddie Dandurand, Ian, Andrew and Zack Heilers, and Natalie Byrnes; two brothers, John (Lynne) Richter of Earlville, and Gene (Suzy) Richter of Solon; her sisters, Beverly Jo (John) Heilers of Bemidji, Minnesota, Faye L. (Wayne) Meyers of Eugene, Oregon, Joann (Collin) Proctor of Wilton, and Diane (Jim) Stone of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
