Joseph Wesley Becicka, 90 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab after a lengthy illness.  Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.  Burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Joe was born September 5, 1918 on a farm near Ely, the son of Joseph and Anna Kristof Becicka.  He married Pauline Mackey on December 4, 1942 at St. Patrick's Rectory.  He served in the United States Navy from 1937 until 1946.  He was a boiler technician for Alliant Energy for over 30 years until his retirement in 1981.  Joe was a member of the Solon American Legion, the VFW Post, the Fleet Reserves as well as the Eagles.
Joe is survived by his wife, Pauline; his children, Bonnie Sherman, Brenda (Terry) Braaten, and Al (Jodi) Becicka; six grandchildren: Jessica Sherman and Michelle (Mark) Campbell, Brad Plagmann, Morgan, Rilea, and Karigan Becicka;
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, George, Edwin, Lumir, and Frank; sisters Emma Hurych and Agnes Hall; and a special nephew, Carl Davis.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family wishes to give a thank you to Hospice of Mercy, Dr. Stahlberg, Dr. Langager, and Heritage Care Center.
