John William Zalesky, 89 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his home from cancer.  Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.  Burial will follow in Shueyville Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

John was born January 25, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John F. and Emma (Kazimour) Zalesky.  John married Evelyn Louvar on September 15, 1940.  He served in the US navy in World War II.  John worked for 41 years as a Planning Engineer at Cedar Rapids Inc., now Terex.  He was a quiet man who loved his family.

John is survived by his wife, Evelyn Zalesky; son, Garry (Sandy) Zalesky; daughter, Jeanne (Henry) Slaughter; grandchildren, Mark (Christine) and Renee Zalesky and fiance Eric Gottschalk; and sister, Lois Kamberling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Zalesky.
