John George Zachar, 89 of 3628 Raccoon Ridge Road SW, died Saturday, June 21 at St. Lukes Hospital from a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW, with Rev. Dorothy Girr presiding. Burial to follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Swisher American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.
John was born October 10, 1918 in rural Solon, the son of John and Elizabeth Provander Zachar. John married Hyllis Stahl on June 5, 1946 at 1

Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Peter Pan Bakery for over 20 years and for Collins Radio for over 17 years. He was a lifetime member of the Swisher American Legion.
John is survived by his daughter Carolyn (Bob) Cihla; a granddaughter Shelly (Brian) Teberg, a grandson Rob (Julie) Cihla Jr.; greatgrandchildren Jenna, Molly, Megan, Rachel and Kegan Teberg, and Caleb and Kaitlyn Cihla all of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hyllis, a brother Ed, and twin greatgranddaughters, Kristen and Kaitlyn Teberg.
He will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
