February 23, 1958 – April 25, 2026
John Ricardo Travis, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 4 p.m. vigil. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family at this time.
John was born on February 23, 1958, in Mason City, the son of Oren William and Frances Marjorie (Lillis) Travis. He attended St. Pius Schools and graduated from Regis High School, class of 1976. John earned a degree in Marketing from Kirkwood Community College. He began his working career at Eagle Food, Best Buy and for the past 26 years at Pat McGrath Chevyland. John was united in marriage to Lorraine Baack on October 15, 1988, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating, traveling, attending family sporting events, watching the Hawkeyes, Twins and Packers, playing pool, bowling, and most of all spending time with his family.
John is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; his children Steven Travis and Leah Travis (Eddie Ayers); five grandchildren Evaiah, Elijah, Edgerin, Elaynah and E’Rayah; his four siblings Charles, Roger, Marcia and Sheila; his brother-in-law Craig Baack; as well as his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oren and Frances, his birthmother Rosalin Holder-Ondrashek, his brother Kevin, as well as his mother and father-in-law Freda and Clifford Baack.
