John Henry Plotz, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 8, 2018 Westridge Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, with Fr. Walter Helms presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery with military rites. A Vigil Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Visitation will follow the Vigil until 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel.
John was born October 23, 1930 in Norway, the son of Rudolph and Elizabeth (McGuire) Plotz. He served his country proudly in the Army during the Korean Conflict. John was united in marriage to Trudy Williams on September 4, 1950 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. John worked for 40 years for the Cedar Rapids Streets Department. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge 251, lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, a long-time member of the VFW Post #788, WFLA Lodge 13, and a sixty year member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was a devoted husband, father and most of all grandfather
John is survived by his wife, Trudy; children, Allen (Anita) and Gary (Chae) both of Cedar Rapids, and Diane (David) Gartzke of Kaukauna, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren Ryan Plotz, Andrea (Adam) Meder, LeAnne (Brett) Hazlett, Alex (Vanessa) Plotz, Branden (Lindsay) Sobaski, Brett Sobaski and Calista Sobaski; eight great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons; and brother Parlyn (Helen) Plotz of Marengo
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leo (Elizabeth), Melvin, Thomas, Eldred (Leona), and Gerald (Donna) Plotz, and his sister Mary Plotz
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to thank the Dr.'s, nurses, and staff of Westridge Care Center and Care Initiatives Hospice for their kind and compassionate care given to John over the past months.
