John Michael Philipp, 21 of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, from injuries sustained in an ATV rollover accident. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sulek Cemetery, near Shueyville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.
John was born July 31, 1994 in Cedar Rapids the son of Chris and Debbie (Smith) Philipp. He graduated from College Community Schools in 2012. He received a degree in taxidermy from Matuska Taxidermy School in Spirit Lake. John was self-employed as Arch Custom Builders. Being a father to Brody was John's greatest pride and joy. He loved and lived outdoors, where he spent countless hours hunting, fishing and camping. John will continue to live thru his son Brody, as well as many others by being an organ donor.
John is survived by his parents Chris and Debbie; his son Brody Philipp of Cedar Rapids; his sister Sierra Philipp and his brother Max Philipp; maternal grandmother Shirley Smith of Ely; paternal grandparents Fred and Jennifer Philipp and Roxanne and Ted Youngton all of Cedar Rapids; Brody's mother Shaylee Maas of Cedar Rapids; his dog Diesel; his aunts Kim (Robert) Minyard, Lisa (Bill) Whitters, Jodi (Dennis) Siamis, Jen (Jon) Shebetka; his uncles Gary Philipp, Kenny (Kim) Philipp, Scott (Rhonda) Smith, Shannon Philipp and Dan Philipp, as well as his many cousins. John was preceded in death by his cousin Drake Whitters, maternal grandfather Michael Smith, uncle Bryan Smith, aunt Kerry Philipp, great-grandparents Ralph and Fern Thoren and Leonard Smith.
Memorials may be directed to the John Philipp Memorial Fund at Hills Bank and Trust.
