John Jerome Martinek, 56, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on November 2, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
John was born on July 27, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Antonia J. Becicka. John attended school at All Saints Catholic grade school, High school at Regis and Washington, and Kirkwood Community College where he received his GED and a diploma as a PC Technician. He excelled in computer competencies, as he started his own company building and repairing personal computers. He built several computers specializing in gaming PCs.
John also worked for several years in hospitality services, including Night Manager at the Roosevelt Hotel as well as cooking and bartending at Little Bo's, The Shack, and Parlor City. John also became proficient at car repairs as with the help of YouTube and manuals he replaced the motor under carriage and brake lines on his car as well as the normal operational maintenance. Although he had no children he loved to entertain and care for them, especially as Santa.
John is survived by his father Dan (Sue) Martinek; siblings Debra Rodriguez of Laguna Niguel, California, Angie Becicka-Hall of Harvard Illinois; brother-in-law Ron Molengraaf of Clear Lake, South Dakota; his stepsiblings Amie (Rick) Price and Jason (Andrea) Brandon and their children; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews & nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother Antonia Martinek, his sister Sandy Molengraaf and brother Tommy Schake
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St Ludmila Church or Discovery Living, Inc.
