John Michael Hahesy, 75, of Ely, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Celebration of life services for John will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 7, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. John was born May 27, 1940 in Manchester, the son of John "Jack" and Kathryn (Robinson) Hahesy. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1958. John was united in marriage to Lynda Gearhart on January 20, 1962. He worked at Henderson Manufacturing - Manchester, Allis-Chalmers, FMC Linkbelt Speeder, and at Goss Manufacturing until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, raising his cows, socializing with his friends, watching his children and grandchildren's sporting activities, and most of all the time spent with his family. John is survived by his wife of over 53 years Lynda; his children Mike (Paige) Hahesy of Erie, Pennsylvania, Michelle (Steve) Slezak, Melinda (Mark) Behounek and Marty Hahesy all of Ely; nine grandchildren Maddie, Haley and Hunter Hahesy, Ben and Ryan Slezak, Mike and Molly Behounek, Gage and Grant Hahesy; his sister Bev (Dave) Hannon of Marion; his brother Bill (Dawn) Hahesy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; as well as his nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Joanne in infancy; his mother and father-in-law Tanny and Jim Gearhart. Memorials may be directed to the family.
