John Buchanan, 76, died January 24, 2023, at Silver Oak Nursing in Marion.   Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Burial will be at Oliphant Cemetery, rural Center Point.

John was born July 25, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of John Edward and Dorothy (Prohaska) Buchanan.   He graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington School.   He received a Certificate of Completion for Apprentice as a tool and die maker on May 14, 1979.  He worked at P/M Progressive Manufacturing as well as at Oral B for the majority of his life.  He was a member of the Model A Club, and the Tri-Five Club.    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap and skeet shooting, woodworking, and working in the garage with his tools.

John is survived by his sister Judy (Shulun) Sun; son Toby Buchanan; daughter Wendy Buchanan; grandchildren Emerson Buchanan, Skylar Hentges, Molly Grace Buchanan; his nieces Anna Sun, Meimee Sun, and Traci Muldoon; his wife Mary Buchanan; his stepdaughters Shelly Carter and Tracy Edens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Daniel Buchanan and Tom Buchanan.
