Joan P. Norris, 79 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. She has given the gift of her body to the University of Iowa Science Program. No services are planned at this time.
Joan was born May 10, 1929 in Preston, Cuba, the daughter of Douglas and Maria deBeilby. Joan received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Alabama. Joan was a dedicated volunteer at the Catherine McAuley Center using her language skill in French and Spanish to offer much needed assistance to those seeking citizenship in the US.
Joan is survived by her sons, Nathan (Cheryl) Norris, and Jason (Jules) Barton-Norris; three grandchildren, Ian, Arik, and Emma; and a sister, Betty "Queen" Ochoa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas deBeilby and Maria Trinidad Goitia-Barros; and her sister, Mary deBeilby Joyner.
