Joan V. Nemecek, 84, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died September 29th 2012, at Royal Park Care Center in Spokane, Washington. Joan was born October 18th, 1927 in Cedar Rapids to George and Agnes Velcko (Konecny). She married Richard C. Nemecek on August 26, 1944 in Iowa City. He preceded her in death May 18th, 2010. She is survived by her son, Richard L. Nemecek (Debbie) of Monrovia, California.; daughter, Cathy L. Emerson (Rick), of Spokane, Washington; grandsons, Eric R. Emerson (Alysia) of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Michael R. Emerson (Calaise) of Spokane, Washington, and granddaughter, Amanda N. Nemecek of Whittier, California. A passionate doll collector, Joan was blessed with her "favorite doll" on June 27th 2012, when her first great granddaughter, Hannah Lyn Emerson was born. Our mom touched many hearts with her generosity, unyielding advocacy, support and determination. The family extends a special thank you to our Cedar Rapids family and friends who were there when both Mom and Dad came home. Services for Joan will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 14th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. S.W. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. until service time. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.
