Jimmie Lloyd Whetstine, 75 of North Liberty died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Parkview Manor in Wellman from a lengthy illness. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Jimmie was born March 19, 1934 in Wellman, the son of Lloyd and Lula Farris Whetstine. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1956. Following his return from service he worked at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City for over ten years. He married Beverly Dawn Tellin on September 14, 1962 in Wellman. Jimmie was employed at Highway Equipment and Iowa Manufacturing both in Cedar Rapids. He worked at the University of Iowa Physical Plant as a custodian for many years until his retirement in 1991. He liked to listen to country music, crossword puzzles, crocheting as well as hunting and fishing in his earlier years.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Bev, his children Terry Walrich of Longmont, Colorado, Luanna (Jim) Bahmler of Wellman, Joseph Whetstine of North Liberty and Michelle (Ken) McCracken of Kalona; four grandchildren Anthony, Erica, Zachary and Ian and a brother Donald Whetstine of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Dale, Merle, Emery, Marvin, and Bill Whetstine and two sisters Kathleen Davis and Marguerite West.
