Jessie Eleanor Booth Zahradnik, 94 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Silver Pines Assisted Living and Retirement Community after a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, near Ely, with Rev. Heather Hayes presiding. Burial will follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery, near Ely. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Jessie was born January 14, 1914, in rural Linn County, the daughter of Gershom Meryl and Mabel Amelia Smith Booth. She married Frank Joseph Zahradnik on November 24, 1936 in her family's parlor in Cedar Rapids. She was involved in the Linn County 4H, Johanna Society, Ely Rebekah Lodge No. 56, the Ely Friendship Club and a member of. First Presbyterian Church, near Ely. She loved to play pinochle and many card games. She loved being a homemaker. She was passionate about cooking, baking kolaches and spending time with her friends and family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jessie is survived by her sons Bob (Barb) Zahradnik, Jerry (Rae) Zahradnik, Norman (Terry) Zahradnik all of Cedar Rapids, and Carl (Barb) Zahradnik of Shueyville; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank on September 12, 1993; a sister Florence Duffe, her brothers Laurence, Wilbur, Robert and Floyd Booth, a daughter in law Linda Zahradnik and a granddaughter Molly Kay Zahradnik.
