Mr. Smith was born August 10, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Jerome grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois but spent most of his adult life in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Bettie and Frank Smith of East St. Louis, Illinois and one sister Frances Brooks of East St. Louis, Illinois. Jerome is survived by his loving daughter Melody Upshaw of Springfield, Illinois, four sisters, Ella Lee and Fannie Samuel of East. St. Louis, Illinois and Marvella Springfield and Shelia Williams both of New Castle Delaware. In addition, Jerome leaves behind four brothers, Lloyd Smith, Leonard Smith, Quinnton Smith and Lafayette Smith all of Cedar Rapids Iowa. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Jerome will be remembered by his family for the laughter he could effortlessly bring into a room. He is loved and will be forever missed.
