Jerome "Jerry" Charles Linderbaum, 63 of Solon, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Solon Nursing Care Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where there will be a 5 p.m. Vigil. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry was born May 15, 1946 in Decorah, the son of Walter and Esther Deeney Linderbaum of Ossian. Jerry attended Upper Iowa University . Upon graduating in 1967, Jerry began his educational career with Solon Community Schools. While at Solon he served as a teacher, coach, and Athletic Director. Jerry retired from education in 2001. In 1968 he was united in marriage with Linda Cronin at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in Decorah.

Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. He served a year in Vietnam with the 4 th Infantry Division. After two years of serving with the Army, Jerry returned to Solon and his duties with Solon Community Schools. Jerry was very active in the Solon community. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Solon Optimist Club, Solon American Legion Stinocher Post #460, and Johnson County Babe Ruth Association. Jerry enjoyed cutting wood and model railroading. Jerry had a passion that he learned from his father as a refrigeration and air conditioning repair man. Jerry enjoyed sports and was a loyal fan of the Packers, Dodgers and the Hawkeyes. He loved life and being with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of over 41 years, Linda; children, Todd (Lisa) Linderbaum, Amanda (Adam) Stahle, Beth (Casey) DeVries, all of Solon; grandchildren Logan and Tyler Linderbaum, and Mia and Piper Stahle; sisters, Janet Linderbaum of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Mary Ellen (Bruce) Christopher of Decorah, and Debby (Mike) Scheidel of Ossian; brother-in-law, Dave (Jan) Cronin of Elm Grove, Wisconsin; a sister in law Nancy (Charles Krogmeier) Richardson of Coralville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Karen, his mother and father in law Harold and Muriel Cronin, and a niece Nicole Richardson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Jerry Linderbaum Memorial Fund at Bridge Community Bank in Solon.
