Jason "Jake" Jerome Joens, 43, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, August 22nd at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Jason was born January 20, 1971, to George and Kay (Sauter) Joens. He attended Prairie High School where he was state champion in discus and graduated in 1989. He went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1993 where he was also a member of the Men's Track team. He owned Joensy's Restaurant in La Porte City. He loved to spend time with his kids and his family, especially at the Joens Family Pool. He is survived by his children, Johnny and Emma Joens, and their mother, Becky (Roeder) Joens, his parents, his siblings; Craig (Helen) Joens, Scott (Robin) Joens, Angie Joens, Sara Griffin (Troy Burckhartt) and Doug (Jeanne) Joens. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; Amy, Kaitlyn, Sam, Rachel, Meghan, Jackson, Cael, Brody, Karaleigh, Benjamin, Tate, and Paisley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank Sr. and Martha Joens and Michael and Agatha Sauter. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
