Janice Conrad Gevock, 87, left this world on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Private family services will be held. She was born on September 1, 1938, in Houghton, Iowa, to Orval and Lucille Conrad, and grew up in nearby West Point with her six siblings. After graduating from high school, Janice pursued nursing training and became a registered nurse.

Janice worked as a registered nurse in hospitals across the country, but it was the nearly three decades she spent caring for veterans at the VA Hospital in Iowa City that brought her the greatest fulfillment.

Above all else, Janice cherished her family. Her grandchildren have countless memories of growing up at her unforgettable A-frame house in Coralville. Every grandchild can name a favorite meal and movie they'd watch together during their visits. Thanksgiving was an annual family affair at Janice's, where the family would gather around the adults' and kids' tables for homemade pumpkin pie and the ever-present jug of milk.

Five years ago, Janice's once-proclaimed favorite granddaughter, Abbie, and her husband, Dan, welcomed her into their home, along with their four children. Janice had her own little place there, known as the "Party Barn." As "GG," she became a special part of her great-grandchildren's daily lives. They spent their time together baking, gardening, sewing, putting puzzles together, playing Old Maid and other card games, occasionally tending the chickens, and, above all, sharing the hilarious and unpredictable conversations everyone had with Janice.

GG lived a life few great-grandmas ever get to experience. Her family is forever grateful she had this life. She cherished each and every visit and every moment spent with those she loved.Janice's quiet faith guided her throughout her life. A rosary was never far from reach, and she often turned to St. Anthony with a prayer whenever something went missing.

Janice is survived by her children: Kendra (John) Schmidt of Solon, Iowa; Teri (Bill) Thompson of Norway, Iowa; Laurence Gevock of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Pat (Magille) Gevock of West Branch, Iowa; and Nick Gevock of Butte, Montana. She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Gevock. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.Those who knew Janice will carry the love, laughter, and moments they shared with her always.
